What Message Do Your Decorations Send?

handcrafted Christmas ornaments

You can tell a lot about a household by its holiday decorations. Some families go all-out, lighting up the entire neighborhood with flashy exterior lights and elaborate themed displays. It’s almost as if they’re compensating for a problem that lies just beneath the surface. Others wear their ambivalence on their sleeves, maybe putting up a decoration or two half-heartedly – or even leaving their lights up all year round for convenience’s sake.

Then there are the households that put family first – the ones with trees that have been painstakingly decorated. The decorations themselves are often homemade, whether they are the result of class arts and crafts projects or just the fruit of a boring afternoon from years past. Handcrafted Christmas ornaments have a unique feel that can’t be duplicated by mass-produced knockoffs, and provide just the right amount of holiday cheer.

Leopard Christmas Decorations

Author: The Christmas Decorator

gmc-2017_leopardball_sm.jpggmc-2017ltgd_finialleopard_sm.jpgYou might think leopard print and Christmas decorations would not go together,  but I think a Christmas tree with leopard ball ornaments mixed with gold and black ornaments would be stunning.  Tied together with black or gold trim and topped with the leopard finial.  (The finial is the same exact print as the ball ornament – the picture is just fuzzy).  Add a little funk to your Christmas decorations this year.

These are hand blown and hand painted ornaments and finial from Poland.  The hand painting is exquisite.  I can’t wait to see these on a tree this year at Christmas time.  This would be fabulous!  You won’t see this tree everywhere.

We have  a wonderful collection of hand blown glass birds.  These feathered friends are an excellent addition to your ornament collection.

Many of these hand blown glass ornaments simply clip to a branch of your Christmas Tree and add an amazing tradition to your holiday experience.v-25067acrobin.jpg

The Legend of the Peppermint (Pink) Pig

Author: Christmas Collector

ha-1326-01-wilbur-the-pig.jpgThe pig is honored as a traditional Victorian holiday symbol representing good health, prosperity and happiness. The peppermint (pink) pig originated in Saratoga, New York.

Originally cast in hard candy similar to a festive pink candy cane, it came to represent even more. It stood for old-fashioned Yuletide, a wondrful time to share memories through the gathering of friends and relatives.

A hand blown glass ornament in the shape of Wilbur the Pink Pig is a wonderful addition to your Christmas tree for this holiday season!

The German Influence on Christmas

Author: Happy_Xmas
blown glass ornaments

The Christmas tree part of the traditional Christmas celebration in the United States originated in Germany—most of us have sung “O Tannenbaum” at one time or another.  There are other Christmas standbys that come from German Europe as well—the blown glass ornaments, for one, and the tinsel for another—not to mention the nutcrackers!

No matter where the glass balls that decorate much of your tree may have been made, the originals came from Germany.  In the late 16th century, the small German town of Lauscha became renowned for its glassblowing.  Glassmaking had been a part of the town as early as the 12th century.   Lauscha would also produce drinking glasses, flasks, bowls, beads, and even glass eyes.
