A unique glass Christmas ornament is a treasure to bring out once a year or keep out year round. However if you do intend to store yours, ensure its well padded and wrapped so it doesn’t break! ![]() The glass ornaments that adorn our Christmas trees today have been adopted into our culture over time, but were originally conceived in Germany. Shaped like fruits, nuts, and simple balls, the glass Christmas ornament can be traced to a man named Hans Greiner. In 1847, in a German town called Lauscha famous for its glassworks, Greiner began producing glass ornaments. These glass Christmas ornaments were called Glasschmuck in German, and Greiner first crafted them in the shapes of fruits and nuts. The ornaments were a hit, and were soon being distributed all over Europe as Lauscha and Greiner grew more famous. Today glass Christmas ornaments are manufactured in China, Mexico, and the US, but all drew their original inspiration from the German glassworker.
Whether the unique ornament you give is a depiction of an angel, a ribbon, or the rose teapot from “Alice in Wonderland”, your recipient will realize that you picked out this ornament especially for them.
The falling leaves also represent security and renewal. As they fall to the ground they create a blanket over the soil to form a winter haven for the forest’s creatures. By falling to the ground they also allow for the rejuvenation of the tree’s growth the following spring. Autumn leaves therefore bring to mind the cycle of nature and constant renewal life on Earth. Hand blown glass ornaments in the autumn leaf designs add a wonderful touch to your fall decorating. Acorns ornaments are great too. At this time of the year when you are thinking of harvests, fall foliage and being thankful for all things big and small, you might consider using fruit and vegetable ornaments on a theme tree. A cornucopia or a tree of plenty would be great. These ornaments are also fabulous to use on your Thanksgiving table or throughout your fall decorations. All fruit and vegetable ornaments are hand blown glass ornaments from Germany. ![]() ![]() Show Me Christmas has a Tannenbaum Treasures product line of Polish ornaments just in time for Halloween–pumpkins, ghosts, witches, wizards and pumpkins.
