Flag Finial

American Flag Finial

Over the last few years I have collected unique finials to decorate with at Christmas time.  I know some people use them all year round, but to keep them safe and sound, I just put them up with my special Christmas decorations.

I like to use finial stands and put groupings of finials on the mantal or dining room table.  I like to put finials in a pretty candle holder and use instead of candles on the table.   I was always taught that if you use candles on a table you need to light them, but if you use finials you can avoid the mess of dripping candles.  They also make a very unusual and elegant table.

If you would like to use a finial all year round, I can’t think of a nicer finial to use than the flag finial.  This is a gorgeous hand blown and hand painted glass finial made in Poland.  It would definitely fit in with any decor and be a nice addition throughout the year.

Happy decorating!

A History of Santa

Author: Happy_Xmas

santaThe cult figure that is Santa Claus is staunchly imbedded in the minds of boys and girls around the world. In the United States, Santa Claus seems as American as apple pie.  In fact, however, Santa Claus is actually a Dutch creation originating around the 17th century. As some might already know, his original name was Kris Kringle.

In the early depictions of Santa, he didn’t even have reindeer. Santa road around on a horse like other people did during that time period. Only with the American author Clement Clarke Moore did the details of Santa Claus that we know today, such as the flying reindeer, come about. The poem is one of the most known poems called the Night Before Christmas. Santa prints commemorating this figure can are seen everywhere-from shopping malls and TV depictions to handcrafted Christmas ornaments.

Spreading the Holiday Spirit

Author: Happy_Xmas

treechrisThe winter holiday season is a time of year that everybody enjoys. With a fresh blanket of snow on the ground, carolers echoing in the distance and the smell of Christmas trees for miles, how can you not be seduced by the spirit? Not only do you get to enjoy the whimsical ways of all your neighbors and friends, but you get to enjoy adding that festive memorabilia to your very own home. This way you’ll be able to savor the holiday spirit everywhere you go, even when lounging at home in your bathrobe.

Add some extra special holiday flare to your house this year with snowman Christmas tree ornaments. Frosty the Snowman wasn’t just a fictional character in my mind. I see him in each and every snowman, actual or pretend, I see during the holidays. You’ll be sure to have your very own winter white wonderland when you decorate your home with snowmen and other winter themed accessories.

Easy Holiday Gifts

Author: Happy_Xmas

teapotSome people are very fussy about choosing Christmas gifts for family and friends. I know friends who would really take time shopping for holiday presents as early as September. But not in my case, coz’ I’m the kind of person who prefers to simplify things. I guess I do practice making things less complicated to be able to enjoy it at the same time.

During holidays, I’d rather give family and friends Christmas postcards and something that everyone can agree on, such as chocolates, gift cards or handpainted ornaments. While this may seem impersonal, I know that everyone will enjoy what I get them and not have to put on a false front. Best of all, I get to simplify my shopping by doing it online.

Whether you’re intending to entertain a horde of guests or just dressing up the house for your family, holiday decorating is a fun process which allows for creativity and showing off all your holiday keepsakes. Candles are a central part of any holiday display, and should be placed in various locations. In addition, if you have unique items like blown glass or spiral candle holders, these can become a focal point for an arrangement.  I always put out some potpourri to create a fruity aroma throughout the house. Snow scenes featuring miniature figurines and houses should be grouped together, and fake snow made from reflective plastic adds character and life.

Family keepsakes should be displayed on a mantle or in a place visible throughout the space; these objects are the heart of the holiday season. And you can’t forget about the tree. My family uses German Christmas ornaments which evoke the true spirit of the season and display our cultural heritage.

Christmas decorating with glass finials is not just for your Christmas tree top!!

You can give your fireplace mantle or table top and unusal look with the addition of handblown glass finials imported from Poland.  With the aid of finial stands your mantle can have the look of elegance with an addition of unmatched finials.

For the table top, finial stands can be used but candle holders can also be put to good use as a finial holder.  Also, add a finial to a flower arrangement for a different look.

The uses are limited only by your imagination!!

Secrets to Holiday Harmony

Author: Happy_Xmas

Smiling family hanging decorations on a Christmas tree
While it’s often said that the holidays are a stressful time of year for many Americans, I’m afraid I can’t relate to that claim. Around my household, Christmas is a time to bond with close family members and to welcome far-flung relations back into our lives. We take great pride in our decorations, scanning the local forests for just the right tree. Then, once the tree is propped up in our living room, we decorate it with hand blown Christmas ornaments while sipping hot cocoa.

You might be wondering why I haven’t mentioned anything about frantic activities that so many people associate with the holidays. What about the petty bickering and the last-minute gift buying? Shouldn’t we be fretting over the next day’s Christmas feast? Over the years, we’ve learned to take care of our Christmas decor and shopping needs well in advance of crunch time. That way we can sit back and enjoy each other’s company when late December rolls around.
